Can evil guarantee us true powers?

I understand that through living a good and just life, our spirit becomes healthy and were consumed with strong positive emotions of true happiness. Because of this pure life, our body ends up becoming healthy and strong. This is a hero. But what about evilness where one's spirit is consumed with evil and hatred. Extreme hatred in which we can no longer see the world positively, but negatively. Our goal isn't wealth or power, but to get revenge, to kill those who harmed us. To be blind with the fact that everyone is after us. And we kill them too. This is a villain. Can he be powerful as a hero?
